Buying a dog online can be a very good thing or it could be a nightmare. Here’s a few tips to make your buying experience a pleasant one.
First thing is to make sure you are not being scammed. If you are looking to buy a purebred dog then you should start looking for a breeder. I would also be looking to make sure that the puppy is Canadian Kennel Club Reg or American Kennel Club Reg. Breeders should never charge more for Reg Papers the pup should be one price and that includes your reg papers.
You should also be able to go and see the puppy and the parents, in some cases if the females have been bred out the father may not be there. Most breeders will have a picture or in some cases you can go and see the father at a fellow breeders home.
Never ever send a deposit or money through Western Union! - There is no tracking so if you are being scammed there is no way to find out by who. Also, when buying a dog online, if you see a puppy for a cheaper price than most breeders are asking, the likelihood of a scam is much higher.
In the Bulldog Breed for example - you may see Puppies advertised for a very cheap price, anywhere from $400 to $1500. Most times this is a scam. True Bulldog Breeders do not sell their pups for less than $2000 to $2500 and up.
Also in buying a pup online you must watch out for those who mix breeds and sell them as Purebred. That is why it is so important to buy from a Breeder that belongs to the Canadian Kennel Club or American Kennel Club. They have to provide you with Reg Papers within 6 months of your purchase date.
I feel that there is no problem buying a dog online as long as you do your reseach and make sure you are able to see your puppy before you buy him or her. I also feel that you should stay within your own province.
