Brushing Your Puppies or Dogs Teeth

Brushing of your dogs teeth should start from the time you bring your dog or puppy home. If you are lucky enough to start with a puppy it will make things easier but don’t lose heart you can still teach an old dog new tricks.
There are many different types of toothpaste and brushes for dogs and puppies out there. These can be purchased from veterinarians or pet stores. Most toothpastes have a flavour to them that the dog will like. Flavours are usually poultry or malt. There are tooth brushes made for dogs, as well as finger toothbrushes and sponges. When starting with a puppy or a dog new to the brushing of teeth, I would suggest the finger toothbrush or the sponge.
To start I would let the dog or puppy taste the toothpaste then start gently to brush his or her teeth. It will be a challenge at first but each day will get easier until it becomes an enjoyable experience for your dog or puppy. Always be sure to praise your dog or puppy each time you brush their teeth. This will make it a positive experience for them as well.
There are different types of dental bones that you can also get for your dog or puppy that help keep the teeth clean. Chewing on toys are also a good way of keeping teeth clean. For all you dog owners that love to give your dogs treats they also have treats that help with cleaning teeth.
