Yorkshire Terrier Puppies

If you’ve ever met a Yorkshire Terrier Puppy you know that they are a bit “big for their britches” so to speak. The breeding method for this little guy was definitely selective as it resulted in his miniature form but that form was all that stayed miniature. He still has his spunk, and fierce soul when he feels that he or his territory is being threatened. So watch out! He may be small, but his fight is big!

The Yorkshire Terrier puppies have only been around a little more than a century or so (not that long at all!). They were developed in England and are commonly referred to or called the Yorkie (although, personally, I’m not too fond of that name). The origins of The Yorkshire Terrier puppies are very difficult to pin down. If you dig hard enough (and I have) their roots are actually quite interesting. The Yorkshire Terrier puppies were developed by miners who wanted a tenacious little creature that would locate and kill the rats located in the mines. The miners wanted a small dog that could fit into all the small places a mine has and also be fearless and not be afraid to take on the rats. The most interesting thing about these little tenacious rat killers is that the miners only bred them a few pounds heavier than the rats they were going after! Talk about bravado! The Yorkshire Terrier puppies (and full grown adults) were definitely not afraid of these big rats and they hunted them down with a vengeance. Only recently, say the past couple of decades, has those loveable Yorkshire Terrier Puppies become an elegant companion of the rich and famous. Most, if not all, of today’s Yorkshire Terrier Puppies are very pampered pets, and not just for the rich. Their popularity is growing and they are starting to be found everywhere. If you are an owner of one of these loveable Yorkshire Terrier puppies and you do pamper him/her make sure you don’t pamper them too much. They can become spoiled. And we know what spoiled children are like! Although it is good to pamper your pet you should make sure that you keep it to a minimum with these Yorkshire Terrier Puppies. They need time, lots of time, to play and run free and show off that tenacity that they were bred for.

As you will see once your Yorkshire Terrier Puppies become full grown is that they will eventually weigh approximately five to ten pounds. The average seems to be about seven or eight pounds, generally. The miniature Yorkshire Terrier Puppies are commonly referred to as “Teacup” and this type of growth occurs quite frequently. When they are a “teacup” version they generally only weigh around five pounds. Be careful with the “teacup” version of the Yorkshire Terrier Puppies because they generally have increased health risks and may be a little overly aggressive. Sometimes they also exhibit shyness or other traits not evident in the larger breeds. Your Yorkshire Terrier Puppies should get plenty of playtime where they are encouraged to run and romp and have a good time. They need plenty of exercise to show off that tenacity that they are known for. So let your Yorkshire Terrier puppies have their fun and you will have your fun with them to
