Dog Training For Amateurs

When first owning a dog it’s natural to have questions about the raising of your puppy. There’s alot of varying information out there in regards to what course of action to take. If you dig around online you’ll find tons of articles, websites and general information about training. To choose a single authority on the subject can be a very daunting task.

Let’s stick to basics and list a few things to keep in mind regardless of what dog training method you choose:

  1. First off, consider the age of your dog, and the conditions he has come from.
  2. Remember that whatever age your dog is, only so much can be learned in one sitting
  3. No matter what dog training method you use, there is one basic rule to reinforce the concepts you teach - Consistency
  4. Two factors that will be an issue for every person that trains - Patience and Time
  5. Size and Breed Characteristics are two factors that must be considered in any dogs training. Some dogs are definitely more inclined to learning certain types of things faster than others.

These very basic rules are a great list to keep in the back of your mind at all times. It’s easy to get sidetracked into the finer points of training a dog. I wrote another short article on dog training that lists a few more points to keep in mind as well. There are tons of great resources out there to use for training your dog, and I’ll probably write a list of them in the future.

Just keep in mind, your dog wants you to love him, and will respond so much better if he feels like you do!
