Fleas

It’s that time of year, flea season. Fleas usally start around the end of April or early May and will continue to be a problem until November. However, they have now become an all year-round problem due to central heating and fitted carpets, which allows them to breed all year-long in the home. Fleas are one of the most common health problems in dogs. They make our dogs miserable with biting and scratching, but the good news is there are many ways to take care of this problem.

Flea Products

  • Many different kinds of shampoo’s
  • Sprays
  • Collars
  • Advantage
  • Frontline
  • Advantix
  • Revolution

The first three products on the list are self explanatory, but the bottom four are actually a liquid product that is usually applied on the back of the neck and just above the tail.

I have found as a dog breeder and owner that Advantage or other similar products work the best - it really does control the fleas. It’s very easy to use and it is just applied once a month.

All flea products are formulated to kill and the only difference in what it takes to kill fleas and what it takes to kill your pet is the size of the dose.

My Keep Fleas Off bathing and grooming treatment program makes dogs, cats, and
other furry pets seem to be invisible to fleas. My booklet (guide)
was published in 1993, but available only through an environmental group
for many years. It is now on the net and being used as far away as South Africa.
